Located in northern Florida, Suwannee County is known for the Suwannee River, which forms its northern, western, and much of its southern boundary. With a population of approximately 44,000, it's a largely rural county.
Suwannee County was created in 1858 and is named after the river that borders it, which itself is named after the Shawnee tribe.
